Mackenzie Dern defends UFC strawweight title at UFC 330
Mackenzie Dern successfully defended her UFC women’s strawweight championship at UFC 330, defeating Gillian Robertson via unanimous decision at Philadelphia’s Xfinity Mobile Arena. The judges scored the bout 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47.
Despite the victory, Dern noted in a post-fight press conference that she felt she could have performed better, specifically expressing a desire to have secured a submission. Robertson, who entered the fight on a five-fight winning streak, was unable to implement her signature grappling style as Dern controlled much of the ground action.
In a separate discussion regarding weight management, Dern revealed that her coach, Jason Parillo, once advised her to consume a beer the night before a weigh-in to aid dehydration and assist in making weight. While alcohol can act as a diuretic, experts note that such practices can increase the risks of electrolyte imbalance and severe dehydration.
