Mackenzie Edwards granted temporary custody following Ryan Edwards relapse allegations
A Tennessee judge has granted Mackenzie Edwards temporary custody of the two children she shares with her ex-husband, Ryan Edwards, following allegations of a substance abuse relapse.
According to court documents, Mackenzie filed an emergency petition claiming a “good-faith basis to believe” that Ryan had relapsed, specifically alleging the use of kratom, a substance described by attorneys as having stimulant and opioid-like effects. The ruling, issued on September 4, imposes significant restrictions on Ryan’s visitation rights. He is permitted to see the children only at the residence of his parents, Jen and Larry Edwards, and must be under their supervision. Additionally, Ryan is prohibited from driving or transporting the children.
The court order also excludes Ryan’s current wife, Amanda Conner, stating she “shall not supervise, transport or be alone with the children.” To address the allegations, the judge ordered Ryan to undergo specialized drug testing using a fingernail sample to provide the “longest scientifically supported lookback period.”
This legal development modifies a parenting plan established in August 2025, which had previously granted Mackenzie 225 days and Ryan 140 days with the children.
