MacKenzie Scott returns to fiction with new novel on Substack

MacKenzie Scott, the philanthropist known for donating over $26 billion since her divorce from Jeff Bezos, is returning to fiction. She has begun releasing a new 80,000-word novel titled ‘Last Days in Two Nations (A History in Eighteen Minds)’ serially via Substack.

The novel, which is expected to span approximately 320 pages, depicts a speculative future United States divided into two territories following a series of pandemics: the relatively free ‘Still United’ and the authoritarian ‘Dakota Membership.’ The plot includes themes of government control and genetic editing.

Scott’s literary background predates her large-scale philanthropy. She studied creative writing at Princeton University under the mentorship of Toni Morrison. Her previous works include the 2005 novel ‘The Testing of Luther Albright,’ which won an American Book Award, and the 2013 release ‘Traps.’
