Macklin Celebrini Wins IIHF Male Player of the Year Award

The International Ice Hockey Federation announced that 20‑year‑old San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini has been named the 2026 IIHF Male Player of the Year. He captured 40.8 % of the vote from nearly 200 media members and IIHF officials, outpacing American goaltender Connor Hellebuyck (20.4 %) and Finnish forward Sebastian Aho (14.3 %).

Celebrini’s award follows a breakout season: he helped Canada win silver at the Milan‑Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, leading the tournament with five goals and earning an all‑star spot. He captained Canada at the 2026 Men’s World Championship in Switzerland, guiding the team to fourth place while finishing second in tournament scoring and being named the tournament’s best forward. In the NHL he posted 115 points, ranking fourth in league scoring and achieving the third‑highest point total ever by a teenager, behind only Wayne Gretzky and Sidney Crosby.
