Maclean’s University Rankings introduces new categorization for 2027
The Maclean’s University Rankings have introduced a revised system for 2027, categorizing institutions by enrollment size into large, mid-size, and small groups. The new methodology utilizes 15 indicators, including student retention, six-year graduation rates, research output per faculty member, and research impact.
In the mid-size category, the University of Saskatchewan ranked sixth. The institution noted strong performances in research impact, library acquisitions, and reputation. University officials stated that while rankings serve as information for stakeholders, they do not drive the institution's strategic decision-making.
In the large university category, the University of Alberta also secured a sixth-place ranking. The Edmonton-based institution reported a 97 per cent employment rate among alumni and noted its significant research funding and commitment to Indigenous language revitalization.
