macOS 27 beta introduces Siri AI text tools and ray-tracing

The macOS 27 beta introduces several functional updates to core system features, including new AI-driven text interactions and enhanced 3D file rendering capabilities.

A hidden Siri AI context menu is available in the macOS 27 beta, providing users with a floating palette for text-based tasks. This tool allows for summarizing, rewriting, correcting, and extracting key points from selected text. The menu also offers contextual suggestions, such as creating calendar events from dates or displaying contact information from names, though its availability depends on the quality of the selected text and OS privacy settings.

Additionally, the Preview app has received significant updates in the macOS 27 Golden Gate beta. The application features a new icon and improved handling of USDZ 3D files. While macOS 26 utilized a mix of RealityKit and the Storm engine, macOS 27 sets RealityKit as the default. The update also introduces a third rendering option utilizing ray-tracing, which provides more detailed reflections and higher-quality visuals, though it requires more significant GPU resources compared to the standard engines.
