macOS features Split View and window tiling for multitasking
macOS offers several methods for managing multiple application windows, primarily through Split View and window tiling. Split View is a built-in feature that places two compatible apps side-by-side in a dedicated full-screen workspace, hiding other windows to minimize distractions.
To activate Split View, users can hover over the green button in the upper-left corner of an application window and select either ‘Left of Screen’ or ‘Right of Screen’ before choosing a second application. On more recent versions of macOS, window tiling allows users to arrange windows on the standard desktop without entering full-screen mode, keeping the menu bar and Dock accessible.
Users can resize the split windows, arrange up to four windows using newer tiling controls, and exit the mode by revealing the menu bar and clicking the green button again. This functionality is available on various hardware, including MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, and Mac Studio, provided they are running compatible versions of macOS such as Catalina or later.
