Macron welcomes Trump to Versailles, stresses trust and diplomatic dialogue

French President Emmanuel Macron gave a warm welcome to U.S. President Donald Trump at the Palace of Versailles, saying he has always been clear about his disagreements but also that "when something is promised, it is kept". Macron emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and defended his diplomatic approach despite criticism that he is too conciliatory towards the United States.

He recalled Trump’s recent threat to impose a 100% tariff on French wine before the G7 summit and noted the U.S. administration’s order that the artificial‑intelligence firm Anthropic suspend access to its most powerful models for foreign nationals, underscoring potential friction points in the bilateral relationship.
