Madagascar and Turkey seek to expand economic cooperation
Madagascar and Turkey are working to deepen their economic partnership through increased investment and development projects. During a reception in Antananarivo celebrating the 103rd anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, Malagasy officials and Turkish diplomats discussed expanding bilateral relations.
Key sectors identified for future collaboration include agriculture, infrastructure, mining, tourism, health, and renewable energy. The Malagasy government aims to use these partnerships to drive industrialization, local production transformation, and job creation.
Energy remains a cornerstone of the existing relationship. The Aksa Group, a Turkish company, developed the Ambohimanambola thermal power plant with an investment exceeding 80 million dollars. While the Malagasy state took ownership of the facility in June 2026, a subsidiary of the Aksa Group continues to manage its operations under a specific contract to ensure the capital city's electricity supply.
