Madagascar delays Miss World 2026 entry, plans 2027 contestant
The Miss Madagascar Committee announced that Madagascar will not field a candidate at the Miss World 2026 competition. The decision aims to give the organization more time and resources to prepare a stronger representative for the 2027 edition.
Preparations for the national Miss Madagascar pageant will begin in August 2026, with an open call for candidates and a plan to hire a specialized communications and events agency. The committee emphasized that participation is meant to promote Madagascar's cultural diversity, humanitarian values and the "Beauty With a Purpose" ethos, rather than merely a beauty contest.
The move follows a review of past participation – five Malagasy contestants have appeared at Miss World since 2012 – and reflects a strategy to enhance the country's international image through a better‑prepared delegate in 2027.
