Madagascar political parties propose multiple constitutional models for referendum
Political parties in Madagascar are advocating for the presentation of several different constitutional projects during the upcoming referendum. This approach aims to allow citizens to choose between various institutional models, including federalism and decentralized systems.
During consultative discussions held in Iavoloha, approximately 95% of the political formations participating in recent electoral preparations expressed support for this multi-option model. Proponents, such as the Hery Vaovao ho an’i Madagasikara (HVM) and the PSD, argue that offering multiple proposals ensures diverse opinions are not excluded and fosters free debate regarding the country's governance structure.
While groups like the Antoka sy Dinan’ny Nosy (ADN) promote institutional reforms based on grassroots decentralization, other political factions continue to advocate for maintaining the unitary system established by the current Constitution.
