Madagascar Presidency launches multi-stakeholder election consultations

The Presidency of the Refoundation of the Republic has announced a multi-stakeholder consultation to prepare for upcoming elections. Scheduled to take place in Iavoloha from September 1 to September 8, the meeting will convene political parties, political groupings, civil society organizations (CSOs) focused on electoral matters, and other vital forces.

To participate, political entities and CSOs must provide up-to-date legal proof of existence. This initiative follows political consultations initiated by Head of State Colonel Michaël Randrianirina in late July. Following his return from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit on August 18, Randrianirina stated that the goal is to accelerate the electoral process and reach a common consensus to avoid indefinite political uncertainty.

Randrianirina expressed support for the Commission électorale nationale indépendante (Ceni) in its political consultation efforts and reaffirmed that elections are slated to be held in 2027, though the specific nature of these elections was not detailed.
