Madagascar report highlights demographic dividend potential

A new report launched in Antananarivo by Madagascar’s Ministry of Economy and Finance, with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), outlines the country’s potential to leverage its demographic dividend. With nearly two-thirds of the population being young, Madagascar possesses a demographic advantage that could accelerate economic growth through 2090.

Minister of Economy and Finance Herinjatovo Ramiarison noted that this dividend requires strategic investments in education, healthcare, and employment to transform the youth into a productive workforce. The report identifies several critical obstacles to realizing this growth, including poverty, gender inequality, limited access to quality social services, and low productivity in key sectors.
