Madalena Costa wins second consecutive European figure skating title

Madalena Costa has secured her second consecutive European figure skating title in the senior category at the European Figure Skating Championships in Ponte di Legno, Italy. The 17-year-old skater, representing Sporting Clube Santacruzense, achieved a total score of 256.16 points across the short and long programs, surpassing her previous winning score from 2025.

This victory marks Costa’s fifth consecutive European title overall. Her recent achievements include being the first Portuguese skater to become a Senior World Champion in Beijing in October 2025, as well as winning the Senior World Cup in Cesena this past June.

Portuguese President António José Seguro issued a congratulatory message, praising Costa’s talent, discipline, and status as a global reference in the sport. He noted her impact as an inspiration for young Portuguese athletes, particularly those from the Madeira region. Other Portuguese athletes also achieved podium finishes in Ponte di Legno, including João Cruz, Rita Azinheira, Rita Afonso, and Margarida Costa.
