Madalena Fernandes wins Vilamoura Junior Open singles title

Madalena Fernandes, a 16-year-old tennis player from Madeira, has secured her first major international junior singles title at the 2026 Vilamoura Junior Open. The tournament, part of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors J30 circuit, was held at the Vilamoura Tennis & Padel Academy.

In the final, Fernandes defeated compatriot and seventh seed Noa Freitas with scores of 7-6 (7-2) and 6-1. Her path to the championship included significant victories over top-seeded players, including defeating the first seed, Sofia Almeida, in the quarterfinals and the third seed, Matilde Novaes, in the semifinals.

This victory follows a strong recent run for Fernandes, who also reached the semifinals of the Portimão Junior Open the previous week. She is currently preparing to compete in the Monte Carlo Masters in mid-October.
