Madar Forum in Aden discusses Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb developments
The Madar Forum held a dialogue session in Aden to discuss current developments in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The discussions focused on the political, security, military, and economic implications of these developments for the Yemeni crisis, the wider region, and international maritime navigation.
Participants included political figures, academics, military officials, and researchers. Lawyer Jamal al-Jaabi noted that rising threats in the Bab el-Mandeb and Red Sea reflect the ongoing failure to resolve the Yemeni crisis, which has allowed for increased regional and international interference. He highlighted how regional pressures have shifted toward strategic maritime corridors, including the Strait of Hormuz.
Major General Ali Nagi Obaid, head of the Strategic Studies Center at the Ministry of Defense, emphasized the geopolitical and strategic importance of the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb as vital corridors for global trade. He addressed the shifting security equations in the region and the necessity of viewing current developments within the context of intertwined international and regional interests.
