Madariaga Monitoring Center Suspends Six Operators for Playing Online Games

Six employees of the Centro de Operaciones y Monitoreo (COM) in General Madariaga were suspended for 15 days without pay after an administrative investigation confirmed they used work computers to access an online video‑game platform during their shifts. The disciplinary resolution was signed by Mayor Carlos Esteban Santoro following a summary that found the operators neglected their primary duty of monitoring city security cameras, thereby compromising public safety.

The investigation, based on internal IT reports and internal‑camera footage, classified the conduct as a serious labor violation under Law 14.656, which governs municipal employee conduct. The suspended staff had admitted the behavior, and the disciplinary board unanimously imposed the 15‑day suspension, noting that more severe penalties such as dismissal were also possible.
