Maddalusa water access dispute in Agrigento, Italy
The town of Maddalusa, located in the restricted Zone A of the Valley of the Temples near Agrigento, faces a complex water‑supply conflict. Residents of homes built illegally after 1968 have been left without water because the emergency decree that previously allowed supply has expired and the water authority must obey AICA regulations that prohibit service to unauthorized structures.
Mayor Michele Sodano says the municipality is cooperating with the prefecture, regional authorities, civil‑protection officials and AICA to seek a solution that respects legal constraints while protecting vulnerable families. The debate centers on balancing the legal prohibition against the basic right to water for elderly, children and other residents living in the affected dwellings.
