EA Sports releases Madden NFL 27 with new gameplay mechanics

EA Sports has released Madden NFL 27, the latest entry in its annual American football simulation series. Developed by EA Orlando, the game features Caleb Williams on the cover and is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

The new title introduces several gameplay overhauls, including a new Persona Engine and a timing-based catch meter designed to give players more control over successful receptions. Other mechanical updates include a revamped QB sneak system and the inclusion of the ‘Tush Push’ play. Players can also create and save custom pre-play adjustments for offensive and defensive strategies.

While reviewers note improvements in artificial intelligence, athlete movement, and the Franchise mode, some criticism remains regarding the Frostbite Engine and long-standing issues such as receiver catching inconsistencies. The game aims for an evolutionary approach rather than a total revolution, focusing on polished mechanics and improved visual fidelity to mimic official NFL broadcasts.
