Maddox Chivan legally changes surname to Jolie

Maddox Chivan, the eldest son of actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has officially changed his legal name to Maddox Chivan Jolie. A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge approved the request on September 14, 2026, after no objections were filed.

Maddox, 25, had previously begun using his mother’s surname in professional capacities. His legal decision follows a pattern among the couple’s six children, many of whom have distanced themselves from the Pitt surname following the high-profile 2016 separation and subsequent legal battles.

Other children involved in similar name changes or public distancing include Shiloh, who legally changed her name to Shiloh Jolie in 2024, and Zahara, who has also filed legal petitions. Vivienne and Knox have also been noted for using the Jolie surname. Currently, Pax is reported to be the only sibling still using the hyphenated Jolie-Pitt name.
