Maddur implements heavy security for Ganesh idol immersion

Maddur town in Karnataka's Mandya district has implemented heavy security measures ahead of a Ganesh idol immersion procession involving 108 idols. Approximately 600 police personnel have been deployed along the route to prevent violence, following a stone-pelting incident near a mosque during last year's festivities.

The procession, organized by the BJP and JD(S), is scheduled to travel from Eshwar Temple on Malavalli Road through Petebeedi to Kolli Circle. While Hindu activists and political leaders maintain the procession should pass in front of the mosque as it has in previous years, police are monitoring sensitive locations to ensure peace.

Karnataka Assembly Opposition Leader R. Ashoka has criticized the government, alleging a “dual approach” in its handling of the festival. Ashoka claimed that while previous violence involved different individuals, current police notices have been issued to BJP leaders and Hindu activists ahead of the event.
