Madeira archipelago under orange heat warning

The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued an orange weather warning for the Madeira archipelago due to persistent high maximum temperatures. The warning applies to the north and south coasts of Madeira and the island of Porto Santo until 18:00 today.

In the mountainous regions of Madeira, a yellow warning is currently in effect until 18:00 Saturday. The coastal areas and Porto Santo are expected to transition to a yellow warning following the expiration of the orange alert, remaining under caution until Saturday evening.

Forecasts for the archipelago include periods of heavy cloud cover, scattered showers with potential thunderstorms, light to moderate easterly winds, and suspended dust. Temperatures are expected to range between 24 and 30 degrees Celsius in Funchal, and between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius in Porto Santo.
