Madeira education authorities renew Ponto e Vírgula project protocol

The Regional Secretariat for Education, Science, and Technology has renewed its cooperation protocol with PLAZA Madeira for the “Ponto e Vírgula” project. The initiative, which also involves MEO and Diário de Notícias da Madeira, is launching its 2026/2027 edition with a new format centered around organized conferences or “jornadas.”

During the launch at the University of Madeira, Regional Secretary Elsa Fernandes emphasized the importance of developing critical thinking and media literacy among students. She noted that in an era of rapid digital information flow, students must learn to distinguish between factual information and opinion, and to recognize credible sources. The project involves 15 secondary schools in the region and aims to foster communication, argumentation, and civic participation through student-led content creation.
