Madeira embroidery featured at Artes & Ofícios Biennial
The Madeira Institute of Wine, Embroidery and Crafts (IVBAM) is participating in the 3rd edition of the Biennial Artes & Ofícios | Novo Design in Oeiras. The initiative aims to increase the visibility of Madeira embroidery by demonstrating how traditional crafts can maintain their identity while integrating contemporary design and creativity.
Two distinct approaches are being showcased: the authorized producer Bordal is presenting pieces that merge traditional embroidery with fashion and decoration through collaborations with national and international designers, while the brand Flor de Lis, by artisan Lisandra Pereira, uses embroidery as inspiration for cold ceramics.
The event also features the first delivery of the Artes & Ofícios | Novo Design Award, which recognizes innovation, community, and sustainability. One Madeiran candidacy has been selected as a finalist among 21 nominees.
