Madeira JPP criticizes long healthcare waiting lists

The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party has denounced the Regional Government of Madeira for excessive waiting times within the Regional Health Service. Secretary-General Élvio Sousa stated that it is “inadmissible” that citizens have been waiting for consultations, exams, or surgical interventions for more than five years.

Sousa highlighted that these delays have resulted in permanent pain, physical limitations, and loss of work capacity for some residents. The party also criticized a lack of transparency, noting that Madeira is the only region where citizens cannot track their position on waiting lists. To address these issues, the JPP is proposing improved management of health services and the creation of a Charter of Rights for users on waiting lists.
