Madeira leaders address elderly rights and global geopolitics
In Madeira, regional leaders and political figures are addressing diverse social and geopolitical issues. Paula Margarido, the Regional Secretary for Inclusion, Labor, and Youth, participated in a national conference in Bragança titled ‘Age and Vulnerability: Where Should Law Go?’. During the event, she presented Madeira’s public policies aimed at protecting the rights and dignity of the elderly, emphasizing the need to balance legal safeguards with individual autonomy.
Separately, Funchal will host a session of the ‘Conferences of Autonomy’ on October 2. The event, part of the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Madeira’s autonomy, will feature speakers Paulo Portas and António Martins da Cruz. The discussion will focus on the theme ‘Is there a new world order? Global challenges of security, defense, and geopolitics,’ examining shifts in the international system and competition between major powers.
