Madeira legislators demand improvements to postal services and consumer rights

Legislators in Madeira are raising concerns regarding logistical and service inequalities affecting the archipelago. Deputy Vânia Jesus highlighted issues with geoblocking and consumer rights, noting that some retailers refuse to accept postal codes from Madeira or fail to deliver to the region entirely. She also pointed to disproportionate shipping costs, where delivery fees can significantly exceed the price of the products themselves, calling for improved legislation and stricter enforcement to ensure territorial cohesion.

In a separate but related effort to address regional logistics, Deputy Miguel Castro has proposed a resolution to recover the quality and reliability of postal services in Madeira and Porto Santo. The plan specifically emphasizes protecting citizens who rely on postal vouchers for pension payments. The proposal calls for coordinated action between the national and regional governments, CTT, and ANACOM to diagnose operational failures and implement a recovery plan with verifiable milestones at 30, 60, and 90 days.
