Madhur Bhandarkar to direct biopic on Syama Prasad Mukherjee

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has announced his next project, a film titled ‘Syama – The Missing Chapter’, which will chronicle the life of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. The project is a joint production between Bhandarkar Entertainment and AKH Ventures, backed by producer Aditya Kumar Halwasiya.

The film is described as a blend of historical drama and political thriller. It aims to explore Mukherjee’s political journey, including his tenure as the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta and his service in India’s first Cabinet under Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The narrative will cover his decision to resign from the Cabinet due to ideological differences, his founding of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951, and his 1953 campaign in Jammu and Kashmir.

Bhandarkar, a National Award-winning and Padma Shri-honoured director, noted that this is his first foray into historical biopics. He expressed a commitment to presenting this chapter of Indian history with honesty and sensitivity.
