Madhya Pradesh agriculture minister seeks higher moong procurement target from centre

Madhya Pradesh Agriculture Minister Aidil Singh Kansana met farmer representatives amid protests over moong procurement and pledged prompt government action. He wrote to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan requesting that the central procurement target for summer moong be raised for the 2026‑27 marketing year.

The state estimates 14.30 lakh hectares under summer moong, producing about 20.16 lakh metric tonnes. The centre had set a target of 4.19 lakh mt last year, while the state actually procured 7.72 lakh mt. For the current year the state is asking for an 8.06 lakh mt target, but the centre has so far approved only 4.54 lakh mt. About 3.47 lakh farmers have registered for the scheme, and officials say a higher target will help deliver minimum support price benefits to more growers.
