Sagar poisonous liquor tragedy: 16 dead and main suspect arrested
A poisonous liquor tragedy in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh has resulted in at least 16 deaths, with dozens more receiving medical treatment. The spurious alcohol was reportedly sold under the brand ‘Sagar Gold’ and was linked to an illegal manufacturing unit.
Police have arrested 16 of the 30 accused individuals. During a recent operation, authorities apprehended the main suspect, Ravi Lakhera, following a short encounter in the Baraytha forest. Lakhera, who was wanted for a 20,000 rupee bounty, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the exchange and is currently receiving medical care.
In response to the incident, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has ordered a judicial inquiry to ensure an impartial investigation. Law enforcement has also taken action against the criminal network by demolishing illegal structures belonging to other accused individuals, including Manish Lodhi, Ashish Sahu, and Chandrabhan Singh. The incident has also sparked local protests, with women in the Behrol area demonstrating against the presence of liquor shops in their villages.
