Madhya Pradesh food officials crack down on analog paneer

Food safety authorities in Madhya Pradesh have intensified inspections across several cities to combat the use of ‘analog paneer’—a synthetic substitute made from vegetable ghee, starch, and palm oil rather than milk. Following government directives, officials are targeting hotels, restaurants, and dairies to ensure products meet safety standards.

In Ujjain, the Food Safety Department conducted sampling at various prominent establishments, including hotels and resorts, collecting samples of paneer, desi ghee, pulses, and flour. The crackdown follows reports of increased consumption of analog paneer in the state after it was banned in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh.

In Bhopal, authorities seized 116 kilograms of paneer from a local dairy due to quality concerns. Samples have been sent to a laboratory for testing to determine if the product complies with food safety regulations. Officials stated that the inspection campaign will continue to protect consumers from adulterated and substandard food products.
