Madhya Pradesh launches digital identity campaign for farmers

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has launched a campaign to provide digital identities to farmers through the creation of ‘Farmer IDs’. The registration process, which began on August 20, involves government teams visiting farmers directly to facilitate the enrollment.

Similar to the Aadhaar card system, the Farmer ID is designed to serve as a reliable digital identity. It will integrate various data points, including land records, livestock ownership, sown crops, and realized profits. This initiative is part of the broader Digital Agriculture Mission, which aims to expand digital public infrastructure, implement digital crop estimation surveys, and enhance service delivery through digital means.

The mission seeks to provide farmers with timely, personalized, and reliable access to agricultural information and government services. Pilot projects for the creation of these IDs and digital crop surveys have previously been conducted in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu.
