Madhya Pradesh moong dal procurement scam uncovered

An investigation by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has uncovered a fraudulent scheme in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh involving the government procurement of moong dal. The scam, estimated to be worth approximately ₹13.3 lakh, involved the sale of pulses that farmers had never actually grown.

Authorities allege that three individuals working as computer operators at cooperative societies—Shriram Thakur, Ranjeet Thakur, and Gaurav Thakur—exploited their access to farmer records. The accused reportedly purchased moong dal at low prices from local markets and then falsely claimed the produce belonged to registered farmers to sell it to government procurement centers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

The scheme utilized the names and land records of farmers who had not registered to sell moong dal, occurring over two procurement seasons across three cooperative societies in the Badi taluka region.
