Madhya Pradesh Government Orders Probe into Judge Giribala Singh Over Twisha Sharma Death

The Madhya Pradesh government has issued a formal inquiry into retired judge Giribala Singh, who serves as chairperson of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Bhopal, following criminal charges filed in connection with the death of 33‑year‑old model and actor Twisha Sharma. The FIR registered at Katara Hills police station on May 12 named Singh and her son Samarth Singh under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Dowry Prohibition Act, alleging dowry harassment and cruelty.

An official communication dated May 20 from the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department directed the state consumer commission registrar to conduct an inquiry under Rule 9(2) of the Consumer Protection Rules, 2020, and submit a report promptly. Twisha Sharma’s family has called for a second post‑mortem at AIIMS Delhi and a Central Bureau of Investigation probe, citing concerns over a possible institutional influence on the investigation. Police continue to treat the case as a suspected suicide, have offered a reward of Rs 30,000 for information leading to Samarth Singh’s arrest, and note that he remains absconding while Giribala Singh has secured interim bail.
