Madhya Pradesh Police issue strict social media and AI usage guidelines

Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana has issued a 24-point guideline regulating social media usage for all police personnel. The new rules, aligned with Union Home Ministry directives, aim to protect departmental integrity and sensitive information.

Key restrictions include a ban on creating or posting Instagram Reels while in uniform, whether on or off duty. Personnel are strictly prohibited from uploading government documents, confidential information, or sensitive departmental material to artificial intelligence platforms such as ChatGPT and Gemini. To prevent data leaks, officers must also disable location and geo-tagging features when working at sensitive sites.

The guidelines further prohibit officers from using social media to criticize government policies, express religious or political views, or monetize their accounts without official permission. This monetization rule extends to family members, whose social media earnings must be reported to the department. Additionally, the rules protect the privacy of victims, witnesses, and suspects by banning the sharing of identifying photos or videos in criminal investigations.
