Madhya Pradesh targets 2 million jobs by 2047 through urban expansion
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced a major urban development plan to transform Indore, Ujjain, and Bhopal into metropolitan cities. Speaking at the Urban Growth Conclave 2.0 in Indore, Yadav stated the state aims to create approximately 20 lakh (2 million) new employment opportunities by 2047.
The development strategy includes the creation of 12 to 15 new townships and planned urban expansion across 25,000 to 30,000 acres. A key component is the ‘Indore Future City’ project, which focuses on housing, industry, and employment-oriented development across 5,000 acres.
To support this growth, the state government introduced draft policies for wastewater recycling and urban affordable housing. The Chief Minister also noted that building regulations may be relaxed to allow for high-rise structures, potentially permitting buildings up to 100 storeys in areas with sufficient road width. The state is also focusing on the Indore-Bhopal-Jabalpur Industrial Corridor, which is expected to attract approximately Rs 1 lakh crore in investment.
