Madhya Pradesh to Hold Student Union Elections in September 2026 after 9‑Year Gap

The Madhya Pradesh government has pledged to conduct student union elections in September 2026, marking the first such polls since 2017. The promise was made during a High Court hearing on a public‑interest petition that challenged the prolonged suspension of student representation in colleges and universities. The state presented its academic calendar for the 2026‑27 session, and the High Court dismissed the petition, clearing the way for the formation of student unions.

If the schedule is followed, thousands of students across the state will be able to elect representatives to address issues such as fees, facilities, hostels, and exam procedures. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who began his political career in student politics, welcomed the decision, noting its potential to boost youth participation and nurture new leadership.

The court’s ruling and the government’s timetable are expected to trigger preparations for the upcoming elections in colleges and universities throughout Madhya Pradesh.
