Madinah Mohamad clarifies role in Tabung Haji RCI proceedings

Former Auditor-General Tan Sri Dr Madinah Mohamad has clarified her involvement in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) proceedings regarding Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH). Denying claims that she requested to enter the proceedings room with a colleague, Madinah stated she attended solely because she had received a subpoena to provide testimony on June 3, 2022.

Madinah explained that Dr Mona Othman, a former Deputy Director of Financial Audit, was merely standing by outside the room to assist with technical information if needed. She noted that secretariat staff informed her she was not required to enter and instructed her to leave without providing a specific reason.

Public sentiment regarding the Tabung Haji issue emphasizes the need for transparency and strengthened management. Respondents have called for more frequent audits—potentially every two to three months—to bolster depositor confidence. There are also calls for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to conduct its investigation transparently and for the government to improve communication with depositors to prevent future leakages.
