Madison County Launches August STOP DWI Checkpoint Campaign

Madison County police agencies are participating in the statewide STOP DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign aimed at preventing impaired driving during two busy August weekends (August 6‑9 and August 13‑16). The county sheriff’s office will operate a sobriety checkpoint on August 7 from 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m., though the exact location has not been disclosed.

STOP DWI Coordinator Matthew White says the effort is intended to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol‑ or drug‑related impairment and to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities. The campaign is part of the “100 Days of Summer” initiative promoted by STOP DWI New York and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, which also includes heightened patrols and public‑awareness activities at other holidays. Residents are urged to use designated drivers, taxis, rideshare services, or the “Have a Plan” mobile app to arrange safe transportation.
