Kentucky infant dies after being left in hot car for eight hours
A 10-month-old girl, Scottie Gwyn Crowell, died in Madisonville, Kentucky, after being left in a hot vehicle for approximately eight hours. The incident occurred on August 13 when her grandmother, Dr. Stacey Fazenbaker, intended to drop the infant off at daycare before heading to work.
Instead, Fazenbaker drove directly to Owensboro Health Multi-Care, where she is a physician. The child remained in the car while temperatures outside reached 95 degrees, with the vehicle's interior peaking at 115 degrees. The oversight was discovered around 4 p.m. when the child's father arrived at the daycare and learned she had never been dropped off.
Police conducted drug and alcohol tests on Fazenbaker, but no positive results are anticipated. While no charges have been filed yet, authorities stated that charges could be sought following a grand jury review as the investigation continues. An autopsy is expected to determine the official cause of death.
