Madiun residents protest proposed waste treatment facility

Residents in Bangunsari, Dolopo, Madiun, are protesting the planned construction of an Integrated Waste Treatment Facility (TPST). Local residents in the Punjul area have expressed concerns regarding potential odors and waste accumulation, displaying banners to signal their opposition.

In response, the Madiun Environmental Agency (DLH) has stated it will prioritize persuasive communication and dialogue to address community fears. Muhammad Zahrowi, Head of the DLH, emphasized that the facility is designed to use modern processing technology rather than acting as a simple landfill. This development comes as Madiun has been selected for the Local Service Delivery Project (LSDP), a program supported by the central government and the World Bank, which could provide significant funding for regional waste management services.

Technical verification by a central government team is scheduled for late August 2026.
