Madonna cites budget clash with Universal Studios for biopic cancellation
Madonna disclosed that the biographical film about her life was halted after a budget disagreement with Universal Studios. She said the project, which she had spent two years developing, including writing the script and planning to direct, required a "large budget" to match the scale of her career. When the studio balked, she suggested shooting in Serbia to cut costs, but the proposal was rejected.
She also revealed that Netflix showed interest in turning the film into a series, but a deal would require her to purchase the script from Universal at a price she described as "exorbitant." The announcement comes as she promotes her upcoming album “Confessions II.”
