Madonna della Neve celebrations draw thousands in Rocca Priora and Sanza, Italy

From July 29 to August 2, the town of Rocca Priora in Lazio revived its annual "Madonna della Neve" festivities. The program included a three‑day religious preparation, daily rosaries and masses, a wedding‑renewal ceremony, and a culminating procession on August 1 featuring the revered statue, a marching band, and traditional rites such as the symbolic "Nevicata" snow‑fall reenactment.

In the Vallo di Diano and Cilento area, a separate pilgrimage took place on the night of July 25‑26 when the statue of the Madonna della Neve was carried from Sanza to the Sanctuary on Monte Cervati, the highest peak in Campania. Hundreds of pilgrims, known locally as "Marunnari," walked the historic mountain trail to a 1,900‑meter altitude sanctuary, where the statue remained until early August before returning to Sanza for the patronal feast.

Both events underscore a centuries‑old devotion that unites communities across Italy through shared faith, tradition, and communal celebration.
