Madonna University expels and suspends nursing students over viral video

Madonna University has taken disciplinary action against a group of nursing students following the circulation of a viral TikTok video. The footage, which featured students dancing in a hospital waiting area, staircase, and bus, sparked widespread criticism regarding professional conduct and ethical standards in clinical settings.

According to reports, the university senate expelled one final-year student and suspended 14 other 500-level students. The video included a caption in Pidgin English: “No sick o, na Gen Z full hospital,” which contributed to the controversy. The incident has prompted debates among healthcare professionals concerning the responsibilities of trainees while undergoing clinical training.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to the university management to reconsider the expulsion, suggesting that a stern warning might be more appropriate to avoid jeopardizing the student's future career. Meanwhile, social media influencers have also called for clemency for the affected students.
