Madonna's planned biopic officially canceled after years of development
Pop icon Madonna confirmed that the film about her own life, which she had been developing for several years, has been officially cancelled. The project, overseen by Universal Pictures, saw Madonna write the script and initially plan to direct, with Emmy‑winner Julia Garner cast to play her younger self. Development stalled as Madonna focused on her Celebration Tour and the project faced numerous script revisions and speculation about a possible streaming miniseries. In a recent appearance, Madonna cited an unresolved conflict behind the scenes as the reason for shelving the film.
The cancellation ends what had been described as one of the most ambitious attempts to dramatize the career of the "Queen of Pop," a venture that had attracted major industry interest but ultimately could not reconcile creative control demands with production realities.
