Madonna's 'True Blue' Marks 40 Years as Pop Milestone

Madonna released her third studio album, *True Blue*, on 30 June 1986. The record featured hits such as “Papa Don’t Preach”, “Live to Tell”, “La Isla Bonita” and “Open Your Heart”, and sold more than 25 million copies worldwide, cementing her status as an international pop icon.

The album’s 40th‑anniversary was observed on 30 June 2026. Commentators note that *True Blue* showcased a more personal, mature songwriting approach and introduced fashion trends that defined the late‑1980s. Madonna dedicated the album to her husband at the time, actor Sean Penn, writing in the booklet, “Dieses Album ist meinem Ehemann gewidmet, dem coolsten Typen im Universum.”

Both German and Croatian press highlighted the album’s lasting cultural impact, noting that its songs continue to receive airplay, appear in media and inspire new generations via streaming platforms and social media.
