PIMS Hospital fire in Islamabad kills at least 14 newborns FAST-MOVING

A devastating fire broke out at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, resulting in the deaths of at least 14 newborn babies. The blaze occurred early Wednesday morning in the nursery of the Mother and Child Health (MCH) ward, located on the hospital's third floor.

Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have been triggered by an air-conditioning compressor explosion or a short circuit. While rescue teams managed to control the flames and evacuate several people, including women and other children, only one infant was successfully rescued from the nursery.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep grief over the tragedy and ordered an immediate investigation, promising strict action against those found responsible. An inquiry committee, led by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, has been established to determine the exact cause and examine whether negligence or safety failures contributed to the incident. The MCH ward has been sealed pending the investigation.
