Madras High Court demands report on nuisance near TASMAC shops
The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu government to submit a report regarding the public nuisance and safety concerns caused by individuals consuming alcohol near TASMAC liquor shops. The order follows a petition filed by a resident of Perambur, who stated that drinking near these outlets creates significant disturbances for local inhabitants.
Justice N. Senthilkumar instructed the Secretary of the Prohibition and Excise Department to provide a detailed report on measures taken to prevent such issues. Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Chennai North district has been ordered to submit data on drunk driving cases, including the number of offenses, fines collected, and the specific locations of the involved liquor shops. The court has adjourned the matter for three weeks.
