Madras High Court dismisses K N Nehru's plea in corruption case
The Madras High Court has dismissed a review petition filed by former Tamil Nadu Minister K N Nehru. The petition sought to overturn a February 2026 order that directed the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) to register a criminal case against him.
The case stems from material shared by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. The court had previously determined that the shared information disclosed a cognizable offense and criticized the state for its delay in taking action.
During the proceedings, the Advocate General noted that the DVAC had already registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Nehru. While Nehru’s legal team argued that the original order violated principles of natural justice by not hearing him first, the court declined to recall its previous direction. The dismissal does not constitute a finding on the merits of the allegations, which remain subject to investigation and potential trial.
