Madras High Court MK Stalin VVPAT counting Kolathur constituency Tamil Nadu elections

The Madras High Court has dismissed a writ petition filed by DMK president and former Chief Minister MK Stalin regarding the Kolathur Assembly constituency election results.

Stalin had requested a 100 per cent counting of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips and a re-verification of all electronic voting machines (EVMs) used in the constituency. He alleged irregularities in the voting process, claiming that discrepancies were found during the verification of 14 EVMs and VVPAT machines. His petition sought to nullify the victory of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA VS Babu and have himself declared the winner.

In the 2026 state assembly elections, VS Babu won the seat by a margin of 8,795 votes. Stalin, a three-time MLA for Kolathur, was unable to secure the seat for a fourth consecutive term.
